Boycott of 1904 World Series

1903 World Series Champions

The 1904 World Series was never held. It wasn't held because the New York Giants (San Fransico Giants) declared that they would beat the Boston Americans (Boston Red Sox). But the year before the Boston Americans were the World Series Champions. During the winter of 1904-1905 the Giants owner had a change of heart and proposed that the World Series be played every year, these rules became known as the ''Brush Rules"(wikipedia). With the new rules in place and the National Commission in control, the N.Y. Giants showed up for the 1905 World Series and beat the Philadelphia A's four games to one (wikipedia). The rules evolved over time and Charles Ebbets convinced others to adopt a permanent rule 2-3-2 pattern. Two games at one stadium, then travel three games at the other stadium, and finally two games at the first stadium.

In 1905 the New York Giants repeated what they did in 1904. The Boston Americans slumped during the 1905 season. In the 1905 World Series the New York Giants beat the Philedelphia A's. The series has been played every year since except for 1994, when a 232 day players strike ended the season in mid-August.
